My Work Station
Fiachra Coyne
I’m not actually set up with a notepad and laptop on top of a mountain though if someone has an idea of how to make this work then I am willing to collaborate asap. I was born by the very west coast of Ireland, I take inspiration from the colours, textures and forms of the ocean and mountains that surround me.
Creativity and design has followed me throughout my life. Hanging on the wall, across from my bed, is a picture I drew when I was ten years old for my grandfather. It is a collection of key characters from ten different plays by Shakespeare surfacing from a candle. Which in turn is providing light for the great man to put these creations to paper. You see, my grandfather was a literate, a scholar, a professor of English, a man who could probably recite most of Shakespeare’s plays if he was called upon. And me, a child who was more in touch with the right side of his brain, felt that my little picture was the best I could do to impressed him. Safe to say, he was impressed.
I’m currently pursuing a MA in Digital Media, in NUI Galway. Through this I have refined skills and centred my design focus. No longer, wild and random as the ocean is. I now do several iterations of the project I have been assigned; each as wild and random each other. However, I now take points with from each one and define my design thusly.
I balance my time by spending as much of it as possible outdoors. Though in a way one is always working here. There is so much to be taken from the texture of a wave or the shape of a mountain. However, my passion is open water swimming. It’s my get out, my comfort, my relaxation, my best and most fearsome friend. But it’s here I am most inspired and most relaxed. Where you can find comfort in the most uncomfortable situations.
